Following hot on the heels of Chris Jones and Rhys Williams, who in May ran the Newport Wales Marathon, 12 members of the Vizolution Wales team recently completed the Swansea Half Marathon in a bid to raise money for LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity.
The long-distance dozen managed to raise £680 (which Vizolution has pledged to match, bringing the grand total raised £1,360 ) for the local charity, which supports the children and their families who are being treated by the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Wales. Around 70 new cases are diagnosed every year in its catchment area from Chepstow to Aberystwyth.
While many of the participants had completed marathons and half marathons before, for others, like Scott Davey, it was their first time. His trepidation was compounded by a recent flare-up of an old knee problem
“I started out nervous about the distance and how my knee would fail. But after running the first mile, keeping at a pace I knew my knee could handle, I started to really enjoy the run. The energy from the roadside supporters was amazing and a real boost. This experience makes me want to do more running, raise more money and see if next year I can return with a competitive time to achieve.”
The Swansea Half Marathon is widely regarded as UK’s
best half marathon, with over six miles of stunning coastline forming part of the flat, fast and incredibly scenic route.
John Sloan, Paul Jones, Rhys Williams, Rebecca Evans, Louise Norris, Richard Davies, Matthew Walker, Jonathan Gibbs, David Sims, Mark Wanless, Catherine Raybould and Scott Davey joined an estimated 10,000 other runners at the Swansea Half Marathon.
